Dr. Neil Calman
President Emeritus, CEO, and Co-Founder, Institute for Family Health
Dr. Neil Calman is the President Emeritus, CEO, and co-founder of the Institute for Family Health, a federally qualified health center network of 30 clinics in New York City and poor sections of the Hudson Valley serving roughly 100,000 patients annually. From the Institute’s website: “Primary medical care is at the heart of our services. We offer physical exams, immunizations, gynecology, and many important health screenings. You can come see us when you are sick, and also when you feel good and want to stay that way. We also offer behavioral health care, dental care, nutrition counseling, care for special conditions like diabetes, and any health education programs. We can help you keep your whole body healthy.”
Dr. Calman is also a professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
The Centers for Disease Control designated the Institute as a National Center of Excellence in the Elimination of Health Disparities.
Dr. Calman has been recognized for his work in advancing the use of electronic health records to improve care and address health disparities. Dr. Calman was appointed by the Obama administration to serve on the nationalHealth Information Technology Policy Committee.
When asked which of his achievements he is most proud of, Dr. Calman readily relates the message that can be found on the opening screen in the new kiosks in the Institute’s centers: “No one is turned away.”
